A
Short Public Prayer of Corporate Repentance
Almighty
God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, maker of all things, Judge of
all men, We acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and
wickedness which we from time to time most grievously have committed
in thought, word, and deed, against Your divine majesty, provoking
most justly Your wrath and indignation against us.
Forgive
us who bear the name of Christ for these personal and corporate sins:
- Leader: Our failure to love You with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love one another as You have loved us…All respond: … we confess to You O Lord.
- Our contentious disunity in the Church…we confess to you O Lord.
- Our idolatry and spiritual adultery…we confess to You O Lord.
- Our failure to give honour to whom honour is due…we confess to You O Lord.
- Our hands stained with the innocent blood of 56 million unborn children…we confess to You O Lord.
- Our degrading holy Marriage through sexual impurity, adultery, and unjust divorce…we confess to You O Lord.
- Our self-indulgent appetites, greed, and our exploitation of others…we confess to You O Lord.
- Our deceitfulness in relationships and our dishonesty in daily life…we confess to You O Lord.
- Our abiding anger, bitterness, and unforgiveness in our relationships…we confess to You O Lord.
- Our false judgments, uncharitable thoughts toward our neighbors, and our prejudice…we confess to You O Lord.
- Our neglect of Your word, prayer, and worship, and our failure to commend the faith that is in us…we confess to You O Lord.
Father,
make us deeply sensible of the great evil of these things and work in
us a hearty contrition. We do earnestly repent and are heartily
sorry for these our misdoings. With pity behold the sorrow of our
hearts and mercifully forgive the sins of Your people.
O
Son of David, have mercy upon us. Turn from us those evils we have
most justly deserved and grant that in all our trouble, we may put
our whole trust and confidence in Your mercy, and evermore serve You
in holiness and pureness of living. Amen.
To
be said by the leader:
Almighty
God who of His great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all
who with a hearty repentance and true faith turn to Him, have mercy
upon us, pardon and deliver us from all our sins , confirm and
strengthen us in all goodness, and bring us to everlasting life
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Or this:
The
Almighty and merciful Lord grant us absolution and remission of all
our sins, true repentance, amendment of life, and the grace and
consolation of His Holy Spirit. Amen.
